Pray For the World: Persecuted Christians in Afghanistan

Please join our church in praying for persecuted followers of Christ within the nation of Afghanistan, from now until June 18th. 

Afghanistan is a predominantly Muslim nation located in the Middle East. 

Approximately 99.8% of the population are Muslim with only 0.1% being Christian. The Voice of the Martyrs characterizes Afghanistan as a Restricted nation meaning that government sanctioned circumstances or anti-Christian laws lead to Christians being harassed, imprisoned, killed or deprived of possessions or liberties because of their witness. Restricted also include countries where government policy or practice prevents Christians from obtaining Bibles or other Christian literature. 

Afghanistan is listed as number three on Open Doors USA 2017 World Watch List due to its severe persecution of Christians. 

Ramadan begins May 26th and runs through June 25, 2017. Many Muslims have encounters with Jesus during Ramadan as they fast and pray. Pray throughout the month of Ramadan that Muslims seeking Allah will encounter Jesus Christ through visions, dreams, and faithful witnesses.

• Pray that doors will open for those who are seeking to understand more about Jesus (Acts 16:9-10).

• Pray that the local church will seek God’s will in deciding whether or not to go into hiding or flee the country after attacks on Christians occur (2 Timothy 1: 7; Acts 8:1). 

• Pray that all efforts to silence the Gospel will instead propel it throughout Afghanistan (Acts 8:3-4).

• Pray that Christians will have access to Bibles to both grow in their faith and to distribute to non- Christians (Psalm 42:1; Isaiah 55:11).

• Pray that Muslims seeking Allah during Ramadan will encounter Jesus Christ through visions, dreams, and faithful witnesses (Galatians 1:12).

• Pray that Christians will expect suffering as persecution increases during Ramadan (1 Peter 4:1).

• Pray that God will send workers to the harvest fields of Afghanistan, one of the least reached nations in the world (Matthew 9:37-38).
