World Water Day

The United Nations established today, March 22, World Water Day to bring awareness to the fact that clean water is not available in many parts of the world. According to Water Aid, 11% of the world's population do not have safe water to drink and that this, coupled with poor sanitation, results in 2,000 children dying every day.

A few reasons why we should care:
  • Clean water reduces the spread of diarrheal diseases that is the second biggest killer of children under five years old in the world.
  • Accessible water supplies mean women can spend time working to earn money or caring for their families, rather than walking for hours in search of water
  • Sufficient water supplies mean there is water available for washing and watering gardens, as well as drinking and cooking.
  • "We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?" -1 John 3:16-17
How we can help:
  • Pray. Ask God to provide for those in need of clean water and how you can help.
  • Get informed about the water crisis taking place around the world. You can do so through organizations such as Water.orgWater Aid,  Gospel For Asia and Samaritan's Purse.
  • Join the World Water Day Google+ Hangout at 1.30pm EST on March 22 - WaterAid and other water organizations will be discussing the world water crisis and solutions in a celebration moderated by YouTube star Justine Ezarik.
  • Provide clean water in Jesus' name through reputable and financially accountable organizations such as:
    • Gospel For Asia-Provide a south Asian community with a Jesus Well. 100% of your donation goes to the mission field.
    • Bright Hope-Partnered with many churches globally, Bright Hope works to provide clean water and other needs to those living on less than $1 a day.
    • Samaritan's Purse- Reaches hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ.
