Part 1 in the Life series.
Ted was an engineer for a small firm in town. Recently divorced and not having any kids, he lived alone in a small house, just a few miles outside of town. Ted's job was very demanding and therefore he put in a lot of time at the office. He was a newer employee with a lot of ambition trying to make a name for himself.
Ted loved to deer hunt and would spend most of the season in the woods. Every year, he and a group of his buddies would head north to deer camp for a week and he would occasionally go on hunting trips to other states like Iowa or Montana for big whitetails or mule deer.
When the hunting season ended and the ice set in, Ted would head out out to the lake and spend his time fishing for walleye, pike or bluegill. Then after the ice would melt and winter turned to Spring, Ted would spend most of his time off of work fishing on the open water.
When he was married, these things were a constant source of friction between he and his wife. She would ask him why he would never take her out or why he would spend all his time working, hunting or fishing and not spend any time with her. Ted would get angry at her and tell her to stop nagging him. He was only doing what he loved. Why couldn't she understand that?
Even though losing his wife hurt tremendously and he was often lonely and missed her, Ted convinced himself that it was for the best. Now, he had the freedom to do what he wanted to do without being nagged.
Ted lived an honest life and tried not to do anything unlawful, other than exceed the speed limit every once in a while and sometimes he would have a few too many beers and drive home. He never intentionally hurt anybody. Actually he liked just about everyone and hated conflict, so would try to avoid doing anything that would hurt or cause conflict with another person. He worked hard to please his boss and the people around him and to be successful at work and at everything that he did. He was never unfaithful to his wife unless you'd consider viewing pornography as being unfaithful, which he didn't.
Ted had his problems, but everyone does.Ted was a good man who lived a good life.Ted's life was about to change.
