Months of solitary confinement, years of periodic physical torture, constant suffering from hunger and cold, the anguish of brainwashing and mental cruelty - these are the experiences of Richard Wurmbrand, a Romanian pastor, during his 14 years in Communist prisons.
His crime, like that of thousands of others, was his fervent belief in Jesus Christ and his public witness concerning that faith.
Meeting in homes, in basements, in the woods - sometimes daring to preach on public street corners - these faithful souls persisted in their Christian witness knowing full well the ultimate cost of their actions.
Tortured for Christ is their story - a classic account of courage, tenacious faith and unbelievable endurance. This history of the Underground Church reflects the struggle in many parts of the world - a struggle that continues to this day.
"This book was singularly instrumental in awakening the conscience of the free world to the horrors experienced by our brothers and sisters behind the Iron Curtain."

In 1999, John Heerema, Big Life’s Executive Director, along with two Christian friends made the decision they could no longer go about their daily lives pretending they were giving their all to Christ. Feeling a heavy burden for so many in the world who desperately need to hear His story before their earthly lives come to an end, they were called to action.

Thus, Big Life was formed and began working in restricted access countries in the Middle East using a sports platform to evangelize foreign baseball teams through one-on-one opportunities. Following 9/11, however, their visas were abruptly revoked and access to these countries was halted.

Shortly thereafter, Big Life transitioned to West Bengal, India, again using the platform of sports. But, by the fall of 2003, Big Life shed its sports platform after seeing the Lord moving the strategy towards one of church planting. This strategy involves empowering believers worldwide to reach their own people for Jesus Christ. United in a vision to plant churches in villages, Benjamin Francis, a native of Calcutta, came on board and a church planting movement was set in motion.

From that point until today, Big Life has experienced, through the power of the Lord, a church planting movement that has now spread into several countries. This movement has continued to grow at an astounding rate each year and has transformed over 80,000 lives.

Jesus is NOT looking for fans…
He’s looking for followers.
Followers who understand that…

There is no forgiveness without repentance.
There is no salvation without surrender.
There is no life without death.
There is no believing without following.

Twenty times in the New Testament, Jesus Christ issued a compelling and challenging invitation: “Follow Me.” Jesus is not interested in mere fans. He doesn't want enthusiastic admirers. He wants completely committed followers. Built around the engaging approach of Kyle Idleman, Teaching Pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY, this one of a kind small group study examines what it means to deny one’s self and truly follow Jesus.

In Radical, David Platt invites you to encounter what Jesus actually said about being his disciple, and then obey what you have heard. He challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated a God-centered gospel to fit our human-centered preferences. With passionate storytelling and convicting biblical analysis, Platt calls into question a host of comfortable notions that are common among Christ's followers today. Then he proposes a radical response: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with promise, and ultimately world changing.

Have you ever wondered if we're missing it? It's crazy if you think about it. The God of the universe — the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and e-minor — loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss.

Whether you've verbalized it yet or not . . . we all know something's wrong.

Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts — it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same.

Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.
