Prayer Targets for Our Persecuted Family - February 2018

The number one request of persecuted Christians is “Pray for us.”

Please join us in praying for Christians who are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus.

Helen Berhane – Eritrea
Helen is a worship leader and member of the underground church in Eritrea who was abducted, held captive in a shipping container and tortured for her faith in Jesus. During her captivity, she sang praises to God and was a witness for Christ. Knowing that Christians were praying for her and having a Bible to read gave her strength while imprisoned. Today, no longer in captivity, she has forgiven her captors and has an immense love for Eritrean President Isaias Afworki. She fervently prays for him to know Jesus. Join Helen in praying for President Isaias Afworki and pray that she will continue to be a witness for Jesus in a culture that is hostile towards Christians.

I urge then first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.– 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair on your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life. – Luke 21:17-19

Ju Dianhong and Liang Qin – China
Sentenced to 13 years in prison on January 16 after being falsely accused of participating in cult activity. Pray that Ju, Liang and the other believers will rest in the peace of Christ as they begin serving their sentences. Pray that their families will be cared for and will remember that their hope is in Jesus. Pray that the gospel will continue changing lives, even as the government seeks to intimidate believers.

Truly I tell you’, Jesus said to them, ‘no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.’ – Luke 18:29-30

Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, ‘which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.’ – Acts 4:18-20

Kyung-ja – North Korea
Kyung-ja was Arrested and tortured by North Korean authorities for crossing the border to go to China and for her daughter’s defection to South Korea. Because of this activity, they suspected that she was a Christian, but she had never heard of Christianity, or God before. Kyung-ja was brutally beaten for two months and then sent to a labor camp where her curiosity about God and Christianity continued to grow. After six months they finally released her and she learned from her daughter that the church and the God it worships is real.
Now, living in South Korea and a faithful follower of Jesus, Kyung-ja eagerly shares her testimony with others and is willing to “follow Him unto death.”
Pray for continued healing of Kyung-ja as she still copes with the affects from her traumatic imprisonment including anxiety, depression, nightmares and irregular heartbeats.

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
– Psalm 103:1-6

Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.’ – Mark 5:34
