International Day of Prayer

The Bible says when we live for Christ, we will experience suffering and persecution. Jesus' followers (the early Church) were persecuted and scattered. Many, if not all of the Apostles were martyred for their faith. Jesus himself faced severe persecution and was ultimately killed. All for the sake of the Gospel.

Today, Christians in many parts of the world still face persecution, typically from other religious groups. Persecution comes in many different forms including harassment, beatings, jail or prison, torture or even death. Though it is shocking to hear that these things are taking place, it should be of no surprise. The Bible is very clear that followers of Jesus will have trouble and suffering and will face persecution.

When asked what we can do to help, persecuted Christians consistently answer, "pray". Today, November 4th, is a day we can gather together along with other believers throughout the world, to lift up and pray for our brothers and sisters who are persecuted for their faith. Many faithfully and boldly go from village to village, from town to town or city to city proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ despite sometimes extreme difficulties, hardships and persecution. They do it for one reason: obedience to the God they love and serve. Most would say that even despite intense persecution, there is an amazing outflow of joy that comes from obediently serving Jesus.

The International Day of Prayer website says that November 4, 2012 is the designated date this year, but you are free to choose another date if you wish. Join other Christians around the world throughout the month of November to pray for the persecuted church.
